Sashment Windows Ltd specialise in the manufacture of elegant, thermally efficient, traditional timber sash windows.
Our extensive knowledge and experience of sash windows lead us to develop the 'Sashment Window'
What is a Sashment™ Window?
It is the combination of a timber sash window and a casement window in that the sashes slide up and down as normal but the whole window can be unlocked and opened into the room in a simple operation. The window is designed such that the exterior has the appearance of a traditional sash window and can be made to match any existing box sash windows. Examples of ideal locations for the Sashment™ window are upper level floors, over a glass roof, loft windows, dormer windows or access on to a flat roof.
Why have we developed the Sashment™ Window?
Our technicians have engineered and developed this window in response to the requirements of Doc B1 building regulations to satisfy the need for a fire escape sash windows whilst maintaining the aesthetics of traditional timber box sash windows. Also, to achieve the substantial benefits of easy cleaning and maintenance from inside the building. In our opinion, this is something that many of the tilting sash window systems on the market fail to achieve.
Aesthetics of this Sash Window
With box frame sash windows, there is often a need to meet current building regulations whilst simultaneously satisfying the planning and conservation elements of a building project, particularly on historic buildings where the traditional look of a sash window is paramount. This has been achieved with our Sashment™ Window but with all the additional benefits mentioned above.
CDM (Construction, Design & Management) Regulation Compliance
Architects, designers and clients alike have a duty to avoid foreseeable risks to the health and safety of any person during the design process. As mentioned above, there are many situations where a window is not safely accessible from the outside for cleaning and maintenance. The Sashment™ window solves this problem.
Easy Cleaning and Maintenance of our Sash Window
As the whole sash window opens into the building, the ease of cleaning and maintenance is a real advantage for any sash windows on or above the first floor. Also, where access is difficult, such as over a conservatory where either a ladder or scaffolding are impractical. On larger buildings, the cost saving of not having to use scaffolding for maintenance would be substantial. An optional safety bar is available that can be fitted if required when the window is opened for cleaning and maintenance.
Easy Access for furniture etc.
On larger sash windows, as the window opens a full 180 degrees to give the maximum opening aperture, easy access is created with the potential to move large items of furniture etc., in or out of buildings where access via the stairs may be difficult or impossible.
