Construction
The Sashment™ Window is a sash window that is hinged on and locked into an outer casement frame. The sash window operates as normal but can be unlocked from the frame to fully open into the building. The outer casement frame replaces the normal 'box' of the sash window to sit within the pockets and behind the outer wall.
Reveals
The Sashment™ frame is the same size as the box on a traditional box frame window, so, if you are replacing an original window, the Sashment™ will fit straight into the original brickwork pockets. To fit into new brickwork, pockets should be formed as you would for traditional box frame windows. Once installed, the reveal margins are set to match the original windows or a traditional 18mm.
Internally, the window sits flush with the wall and would be finished all round with architrave as normal.
Draft proofing – completely weather tight and draft proofed
The sash window part of the Sashment™ is fully draft proofed on the staff beads, parting beads and meeting rail, which together with the flexi-slide seals, gives double draft protection, creating a thermally efficient window.
The outer 'casement' frame has a weather seal all around the inside plus there is an additional draft strip running all around between the sash window frame and casement frame. The sub sill is fitted with a Sealmaster Flipper Seal that prevents weather penetration between the sash window sill and outer casement sill.
Spring balances
The sashes are balanced with our high quality block & tackle sprung pulley system giving a superior smooth operation and coming with a 10 year guarantee against malfunction. Other benefits of this system are:
- No sash stops required
- No grease
- B.S.I. performance tested over many years
- Easier foolproof sash removal
- No field service calls required for adjusting balances
Sashes
Sashes are fitted with flexi-slide seals as standard, allowing a smooth, rattle free operation and reducing any sideways movement when lifting the sash. Sashes are beaded internally for reasons of security and weatherproofing.
Glazing
Unless single glazing is required by planning authorities, we will glaze with a 20mm low E double glazed unit which meets current building regulations by giving a u value of 1.9 w/mk2. Options of argon filled units and softcoat glass can reduce this to 1.3.
Horns
The horn detail can be made to match any horns on existing windows.
Security and Ironmongery
The sash window is fitted with good quality sash lifts and locking fastener in either chrome or brass as standard.
The inner frame is secured into the outer frame with mortise shoot bolts and supplied with either a turn key for occasional cleaning or maintenance or a handle for a fire escape window. Special high quality heavy duty hinges capable of carrying up to 60kgs per pair are used on the casement frame to facilitate a secure and smooth operation.
When the window is opened for cleaning or maintenance, an optional safety bar can be supplied for fitting across the opening.
Timber
A very good quality preservative treated European softwood is used together with a hardwood sill as standard or the option of hardwood throughout. Our timber suppliers have chain of custody certification for both FSC and PEFC for the supply of timber and sheet materials from legal and well managed forests. Windows supplied fully finished carry a 10 and 15 year guarantee for softwood and hardwood options.
Fully Finished Paint System
The timber is pre treated with Sikkens Cetol WV 882 wood preservative and primed with saturation sprayed Sikkens Rubbol WP176, a high performance moisture vapour permeable primer.
A fully finished paint option is available with two finish coats of Sikkens Rubbol WF380.
